Unsolicited article submissions
(including articles submitted on spec) are reviewed as time permits.

EDITORIAL
INTEGRITY
In keeping with the basic tenets
of professional journalism, advertisers are given no special
consideration with regard to approval of queries or acceptance
of editorial submissions. Decisions are based solely on content
needs and editorial preferences; advertising history (or lack
thereof) is not a factor.
EDITING
Evergreen Monthly edits all content
for punctuation, spelling, grammar, length, clarity, narrative
flow, and compliance with our conventions. Attention-grabbing
headlines that convey the article's content are a must; we reserve
the right to re-title accepted submissions as needed. Bios are
written in-house from the information you provide.
DEADLINES

Evergreen Monthly editorial lineup
is generally established at least 3 months prior to publication.
See calendar for specific article deadlines for each issue.

stories of outstanding quality in the following topic areas:
- Environment, including ecological sustainability,
renewable energy and conservation, eco-tourism, bio-regionalism,

- Natural Health, including integrative
medicine, complementary health practices, and yoga and other
body disciplines.
- Food, including nutrition, organic farming,
consumer reporting, and genetic engineering and GMOs.
- Spirituality, including indigenous traditions,
creative spiritual practices, and progressive spiritual inquiry.
- Personal Growth, including cultural creative
values, women's issues, communication and relationships, and
inspirational self-help.
- Social Responsibility, including economic
justice and fair trade, socially responsible investing, shareholder
activism, and socially responsible business practices.
We receive many queries and unsolicited submissions each month.
Your article will have a better chance of being accepted if you:
- Know the magazine. If you haven't read
Evergreen Monthly recently (or at all), take the time to do so.
Our content and direction have changed considerably over the
years. The most common reason articles are rejected is that they
are inappropriate for our current audience. Be sure you're submitting
the right article to the right publication.
- Find the story. Don't just write about
a topic. Instead of writing about concepts and ideas, write about
people and events. Weave your research into a vibrant and particular
story. Put a human face on trends and statistics. Look for stories
that are original, unusual or unexpected.
- Appeal to the senses. Paint a picture.
Engage the reader with a fresh perspective, pertinent and evocative
details, and strong narrative. Take the reader inside the experience.
- Cultivate local appeal. Particularize
your story for citizens of the Seattle Metro and Western Washington
and Oregon by interviewing local experts, covering local events
or discussing local impact.
